Summer…Where I live

good morning! welcome to another awesome blog circle! i am so excited to be a part of this monthly blogging project with a group of amazing photographers! me and a number of my fellow CONFIDENCE Teachers join together once a month to give you some photo inspiration based on a certain theme. this month’s theme is “Summer…Where I Live.”

just under a year ago, my family and i moved to Lake Arrowhead. for those of you that aren’t familiar, Lake Arrowhead is a small mountain community just north of San Bernardino, CA. it’s a huge vacation spot for people in Southern California, which is awesome…and not so awesome at the same time. it gets crazy busy here on holidays! and in the Summer. and in the Winter, when everyone wants to come see what snow looks like in SoCal. but there are also great things about living up here. walking into any of the stores or restaurants is like right out of a scene in “Cheers”…yes, you got it, everybody knows your name ? it’s also beautiful here, with gorgeous trees, lakes and hiking trails for days.

since this is our first full Summer up here, we are discovering all that this little town has to offer during this season. after talking with friends, neighbors & other locals, we decided a MUST was getting a beach pass. i know, you’re probably as confused as i was. a beach? in the mountains? what? well, there are actually several beaches up here…lake beaches, of course. most of them are private, but if you are a resident you can get a pass so that you have access to them. this has become one of Zach’s favorite things to do! water…check. sand…check. lots of other kids to watch and play with…check. and don’t forget the crawfish, or crayfish…check. i was introduced to these guys about a month ago when i was taking Zach into the water, saw one crawling near my foot, and screamed “lobster!” my husband sat on the sand, laughing at me, and “kindly” reminded me that lobsters live in salt water and lakes are freshwater acheter du viagra sur le net. therefore, i must be seeing a crawfish. honestly, does that even matter when you see a red crustacean near your toes?! technicality, dear.

when i found out the theme for the blog circle, i wanted to make sure and take my camera along with me on one of our beach trips. then, i found out yesterday that i had written down the wrong due date ? i don’t have any images of the lake itself, but here are a couple of Zach playing in the sand nearby. the lighting was difficult because it was the middle of the day, but i still love the intensity and concentration on his face. this is how he is when he’s playing…very focused and methodical! i adore him.

the first two are taken with my DSLR and the last one was taken with my iPhone ?

a lot of you may take vacations this time of year, and it’s so obvious to us to pull out our cameras when we are away from home on these exotic trips. but i encourage you to take a few moments this season to pull out your camera during the less obvious times, and capture Summer…wherever you live!

now, head on over to see what the amazingly talented Tina of Tina LeAnn Photography has to share about Summer where she lives…Wisconsin!

i would also love for you to share your favorite photo of Summer where you live!! feel free to post your image on Facebook and tag me!

Jess – Z is soooo cute!! I just love your photos of him! And – I also had the due date incorrect…I thought I had another week to pull this post together 🙂 Needless to say I was scrabbling and just finished this morning!

Melanie

Your little guy is so precious! and funny, as long as I have lived here I never knew they had beach type areas up there…. go figure! Next time I go spend a few days with Ed and Heather in Big Bear I should swing by and spend some time with you! or next time Cindy comes up maybe she can stop by and get me :o) Keep on keeping on with your photos…….. life is precious! Luv ya

I LOVE how soft the lighting is on these Jess! Usually the beach can have such harsh sun from reflecting off the sand and water! What is one of your best tips on how you captured such a soft light?

And seriously, I can’t believe HOW BIG Zach has become! This is insane! He is growing up SO FAST! Wish we lived closer and could join you on a beach afternoon excursion!

@Tina thank you so much!! And so glad I wasn’t the only one 🙂 Loved your post girl!!

@Melanie thanks, Mel! I know, me neither! Best kept secret 🙂 And that would be awesome! Would love to see you!! 🙂 xoxo

@Me Ra thank you, Me Ra! I know! He is growing up way too fast…as are your kiddos! I wish we lived closer too 🙂 That would be awesome!

Yes, the lighting was really difficult as it was around 2pm. I noticed that there was a tree actually providing some shade toward one side but it was windy! So, I moved him over there and would focus and wait for the leaves to blow just right to shade his face…haha! Now, most beaches won’t have trees 🙂 One of my favorite places to take pictures on the beach if it’s not close to sunset is under a pier! You can usually find some nice, even shade for your subjects, and still get the gorgeous beach backdrop! xo
