Emmy’s 1st Day of School

hey everyone!

sorry i’ve been MIA for a few days.  this was seriously the most sick i’ve been in a LONG time.  and every time i thought i was getting better, a whole new set of symptoms would start.  it’s been a long two and a half weeks, but i’m excited to finally be feeling 100%.  enough about me though!

i wanted to share a sneak peek for the session i did with the adorable Emmeline last week =)  this girl “had me at hello”…haha!

her mom contacted me via my website about a month or so ago & told me that she used to work with my hubby and asked if i could do photos for Emmy’s first day of kindergarten.

i met them at the school last Wednesday.  i introduced myself to Emmy and asked her if she prefers to be called “Emmy” or “Emmeline”.  she says, in her super cute voice, “people call me Emmy for short, but they call me Emmeline for long.”  then, she proceeded to tell me how she is starting kindergarten and had just met her teacher.  she is so animated and excited when she speaks!  i just love it!

when i sent her mom my questionnaire, she shared that Emmy was into ballet and had just started her first class.  she asked if she could bring other outfits and props, and i couldn’t say yes fast enough =)  there’s nothing like capturing kids when they’re doing the activities that they love.

at one point, Emmy asked if she could see the pictures that i was taking of her, so i showed her a few and she says “oh my gosh, i love it.  you’re a really good photographer.”  at that point i just wanted to take her home with me =)  this shot was one of her favorites out of the ones i showed her…

even though she was shy for the first 10 minutes or so, like most kids are, she really warmed up to me quickly and started having fun!  and i had a blast taking pictures of her having fun.  she wanted me to take some photos of her with her hula hoop…

then she just started doing these adorable poses and saying “what about this, jess?  take a picture of me doing this!”  how could i not?!

her spirit and joy for life was just so refreshing…

thank you so much, Emmy and Lorelei!  i had so much fun with you guys!  Emmy, i wish you the best and hope you have an awesome first year of school =)

xoxo

Fantastic pictures!!
Some of the best I’ve ever seen

thank you so much to both of you!!

Peter

Great work, Jess! You’ve captured that bubbly personality with the expertise of a veteran.

What filters, if any, are you using?

I like the B&W with the hula hoop in color. I’d be interested in a similar effect with just the eyes in color; either of the last two photos on this page would be a good candidate, but you may have others that would work even better.

thanks so much, Peter! it was nice to get to meet you the other day =) i am actually only using a UV Protection filter, so nothing special!

and i would be more than happy to apply that effect to some of the other photos…so glad you like them!

thanks again =)

Christina

<3 as usual. She is so beautiful!! You are going to have to teach me the B&W conversion with the pop of color. I am not as precise….LOL
Great job Jess

Christina, i will totally show you! we need to start making a list…lol!
